A Journey Through Time in the Heart of Enånger

The History of the House

When you step over the threshold of Enånger Bed and Breakfast, you also step right into a piece of local history.

Dairy

For a long time ……people have been skilled at harnessing water power. Sawmills, mills, and other operations requiring energy emerged near waterways. The water was also excellent for transporting goods to nearby docks/harbors.

The Enångersån river was an important lifeline for Enånger, which appears early on maps, actually as far back as the 1600s, which is earlier than, among others, Hudiksvall.
To better utilize the dairy farmers' products, a dairy was needed. Thus, Enånger’s dairy was established. One of many predecessors to Enånger’s BnB.

Various Operations

At the end of the 19th century, the church allocated land and a dairy was built opposite Enånger’s now “old” church. In this “dairy,” a number of operations have since taken place, such as post office, library, power plant office, before the building became a military storage facility for nearly 40 years. During that time, the house’s heating system was dismantled, windows were “nailed” shut, and doors were sheeted.

After the “military period,” Gustens Antiques and Flea Market moved into the house.

A House with Soul

One of Gustens’ customers couldn’t find any antiques he wanted to buy, so he bought the house instead……

A rundown house in great need of care…..

When one of our current bathrooms was installed, the floor was reinforced to double thickness right there, probably due to a previous safe placement. A house with soul and history that we appreciate and want to preserve and develop. The thought of the house’s history is always present in our renovation plans.

As a little curiosity, it can be mentioned that the house has also been a hiding place for stolen goods – ask us and we will tell you more…..

Bed and Breakfast

Our very first guests stayed with us in the summer of 2011, even though our first guest room was not yet finished. In spring 2012, we were able to welcome guests to our room Svedja.

By Midsummer 2012, our second room, Bro, was ready to receive guests. One year later, in 2013, Ådalen was also ready for guests. Our guests have been greatly tested, as renovation of the house has been ongoing the entire time.

Summer 2015, the rainiest summer in many years, we tried a garden café and also kayak rental. We had hoped for better weather.

The Circus Wagon

In the summer of 2016, we quietly started renting out our Circus Wagon, while the entire roof of the house was replaced and our relaxation area began to take shape. This is also the year we launched our first cycling packages (preparations took place throughout 2015).

The wagon got its own shower and toilet, as well as its own porch in 2017.

The Circus Wagon has been very popular but in the spring of 2025, we decided to sell it after the summer season.

Enånger’s Vicarage

After a request from the church council, we agreed to operate the vicarage as an annex to the BnB. We have signed a two-year lease agreement. The vicarage has five rental rooms, two meeting rooms, and a proper kitchen. We were unsure if there was a demand for additional accommodation in Enånger but have had guests since the end of August 2025.
